Worked onto premium cotton rag paper (250gsm) using giclée inks, coloured pencil and acrylic, it carries layers of mark and meaning — each one part of a deeper unfolding.
At its centre stands the stag.
Not only as animal, but as antlered being of the wildwood, carrying both earth and sky within his form.
I knew him.
He came often, walking the edges between forest and home. A quiet presence. A watcher. A guide.
Until one day he did not return.
Taken by hunters.
But not gone.
Because some beings do not leave in the way we understand.
They move.
They become part of something wider.
Within this piece, the stag carries the white oak — not as a tree of this world alone, but as a tree of the otherworld, rooted in the unseen and branching into light.
It grows through him.
A living axis between earth and cosmos.
A place where healing does not come as force, but as remembrance — of what we are beneath the noise, beneath the loss, beneath the forgetting.
The ravens sit above, as watchers and messengers.
The spirals move outward, carrying the pulse of life, of breath, of return.
This work holds the energy of endings that are not endings,
of presence that remains beyond form,
of the quiet strength that rises again through grief.
It was created in honour of a being who walked this land.
And as a light for those who need it.
